Connect Claude Code

Install Claude Code and configure its Anthropic access first. CMX detects its settings and can set ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL to the local gateway. The documented ready check looks for ANTHROPIC_API_KEY in Claude Code’s environment; a browser sign-in alone may not appear as ready in cmx providers claude list.

Keep your provider key in Claude Code’s native environment, never in CMX configuration. Restart Claude Code, send a request, then compare cmx stats before and after. cmx harness verify checks that the client points to a live gateway.

Return to a direct connection

cmx harness disable claude

CMX restores the pre-connect settings while preserving unrelated edits when it can reconcile them. Restart Claude Code afterward. If your Claude Code account uses a subscription login rather than an API key, test a real request before relying on this route; native authentication behavior can differ by account and client version.
